The
Neighbor Islands are most commonly defined as the larger
Hawaiian islands that neighbor Oahu which is the island of the City of
Honolulu, a large urbanized center and the state capital. Only about
half of Honolulu's approximately four million visitors each year ever
see of a Hawaii that is still mostly unspoiled by the wholesale
urbanization that has made much of Honolulu look like just another
modern American city. To quote Peter Kun Frary of the University of
Hawaii, "Our Neighbor Islands still retain some of the flavor of
yesteryear's Hawaii." |
